 How to debug the sound

                                                           How to debug the sound

In the process of building a home theater, after selecting the speakers, you need to perform a series of tasks such as positioning, installation, and debugging of the speakers. Since the home theater system has a set of strict specifications in terms of speaker installation, positioning, and debugging, it means that users can only get ideal sound if they follow these specifications to install and debug the speakers. So how can we adjust the most perfect sound? Now let me tell you.

Installation of front channel speakers

The front channel consists of two main speakers and a center speaker, referred to as the LCR channel. These three speakers are responsible for most of the sound in the software. Therefore, it is very important during installation. According to THX's example, the best installation method for LCR speakers is to install the three speakers at the same height and at the same height as the listener's ears when sitting, so as to obtain the best sound field and correct vocal dialogue positioning . However, such conditions do not necessarily exist for the home environment of most consumers. For example, consumers who do not use sound-transmitting screens or use televisions cannot follow the above method for installation. For these consumers, you can try to install the center speaker on the upper or lower edge of the display device, and then adjust the radiation direction of the speaker. However, one thing that must be paid attention to in this method is that the angle between the installation height of the center speaker and the L and single channel speakers should not exceed 10 degrees, so as not to damage the sound image positioning and sound field of the vocal dialogue.

In addition to the above installation methods, users can also try to install the LCR channel speakers on the upper or lower edge of the display device at the same time. Then, make the same adjustments to the radiation directions of the three speakers, so that an ideal front sound field can also be obtained.

Every home theater has its own unique audio-visual environment. Only a scientifically and rationally adjusted home theater audio system can adapt to its environment. The various devices in the system cooperate with each other to give full play to the corresponding functions.

Surround speaker installation

Surround speakers currently on the market include dipole radiating speakers and traditional direct radiating speakers. For the current 7.1-channel AV system, you need to use 4 surround speakers. In general, you can configure 4 dipole radiating speakers or 4 direct radiating speakers, or use dipole speakers for the side channels and direct radiating speakers for the rear channels. These speakers also have some specific requirements when installing them. For example, direct radiation speakers point the radiation direction to the listening position like the front LCR channels, while dipole speakers need to point the speaker's "null zone" to the listening position. In terms of the installation height of the speakers, according to THX's example, the installation height is about 1.8m-2.2m, then consumers need to use speaker brackets to fix the speakers on the wall. Therefore, consumers can go to the shops selling racks in the Electric City to buy some suitable speaker brackets to install the speakers. If you can't find a suitable bracket, you can consider customizing one according to your own speakers, but the cost will be relatively high. However, at present, some speaker manufacturers will launch corresponding speaker brackets according to their products when producing speakers, so as to facilitate consumers to choose and use. For example, professional manufacturers such as M&K and Genelec have launched corresponding speaker accessories.

Subwoofer setup and placement

The subwoofer is mainly used to make up for the lack of low-frequency lower limit of the main speaker, and at the same time, it can also play a role in increasing low-frequency energy. Therefore, consumers must set the low-frequency crossover point of the AV amplifier before using it. When setting the crossover point, it should be set according to the speaker you choose. For example, if you choose THX-certified home theater speakers such as M&K and Atlanta, you can set all the crossover points at 80Hz. As with other speakers, you must set the crossover point for each channel according to the low frequency response of each speaker. After setting the crossover point, you can place the subwoofer. So where is the best place to put the subwoofer in the room? Since the low frequency below 80Hz is almost non-directional, theoretically speaking, the subwoofer can be placed anywhere in the room. But in fact, consumers need to try to place the subwoofer in different positions in the room to find out the best placement point. In general, consumers can place the subwoofer in front.

Debugging rule 1: choose the right equipment

In the home theater audio market, equipment ranging from as low as 10,000 yuan to as high as millions of yuan dazzles beginners. Many people blindly pursue high-end equipment, thinking that expensive is good. And the ability to use the debugging skills can make the home theater audio equipment play its strength and achieve the ultimate performance within a certain range. Even the equipment worth tens of thousands of yuan can release satisfactory sound effects. Everyone has different tastes for audio equipment, and the performance of various equipment is also different due to inherent limitations, which cannot be forced. Therefore, before debugging, you must first choose the equipment that suits you.

Debugging Rule 2: Act as a standard with real sound

How do you know if you have chosen the right home theater audio equipment? Just listen to it and you will know whether the sound reproduced by the audio system is similar to the real sound. It is never possible to equate the sound with the real sound. Fans can perceive that the sound reproduced by the sound is like the sound in the real environment. For example, the sound of the piano sounds like a piano, and the cello sounds like a cello. These are easy to say, but actually very difficult. In addition to the basic sound, the musical instrument itself also has a lot of rich overtones. When playing strings, the audio equipment needs to have a good high-frequency response to be vivid, while brass instruments need a good mid-frequency to be loud and not harsh. . Therefore, adjust the speaker according to the standard of real sound performance.

Debugging rule three: sound field balance

Sound range balance is an important condition to make the sound good. When we debug the home theater audio system, we not only need to adjust the middle and treble, but also adjust the bass. We don't want too much treble and too much bass. Too much low frequency not only can't accommodate the room, but also causes standing wave interference, making the sound turbid, and the human ear will feel uncomfortable after listening to such a sound for a long time. The higher the range is, the richer the low frequency needs to be. If the low range is weak, the treble should be darker, so that it will sound pleasant and comfortable.

Debugging Rule Four: It Can Be Restored

In the process of debugging, it will inevitably involve changes to the original state, such as disassembling and modifying the part, pay attention to the use of non-destructive methods, so that if you are not satisfied with the sound effect of the modified hands, you can restore it. When debugging, it is best to carry out a small part each time, and proceed to the next step after confirming that a good effect has been obtained.

Debugging rule five: don't stick to the rules

Home theater audio system debugging should not be static. After mastering the basic principles, you can try different methods. The same method does not necessarily apply to everyone. The audio-visual environment is different, and the home theater audio equipment is also different. The methods used by others can be used for reference. As long as the direction of debugging is correct, you can proceed according to your own taste.

The most important thing about home theater audio system debugging is to do it yourself and try it yourself, so that you can experience the subtle changes. When you hear that the equipment in other people's home is better than your own, you can reflect on it. Is it because of the clever positioning technology, the proper handling of the audio-visual space, or is there something special about the combination of home theater speakers? Do not blindly follow up without thinking, use the debugging method to improve the sound of the equipment, the effect may exceed your expectations.
