 In-Wall Speaker Q&A

                                                         In-Wall Speaker Q&A

In a year when the custom installation industry started to take off, in-wall speakers have become more commonplace. In-wall speakers are actually not as simple as they appear on the surface, and the birth of each product has a very rich experience. Regarding the design of in-wall speakers, we have communicated with many speaker designers. The following are some questions about the design of in-wall speakers collected by enthusiasts.

Q: What is the biggest difficulty in designing in-wall speakers?

A: In a relatively small volume, a better low frequency response is obtained. In particular, a relatively reasonable sensitivity must also be maintained. Each speaker looks simple, but in fact, it has undergone tests that you can't imagine when it was developed.

Q: Some in-wall speakers have cabinets, while others do not? Is the sound of products with cabinets better?

A: In terms of speaker design, volume is a very important parameter, which will directly affect the effect of the low-frequency part of the speaker. However, this is not to say that in-wall speakers without a back box are necessarily inferior to those with cabinets. Because of the exposed speakers of the crossover and unit, his cabinet is actually the space behind the installation. During installation, space should be reserved in strict accordance with the manufacturer's requirements and filled with sound-absorbing cotton. Some big manufacturers will also be equipped with special back box sound-absorbing cotton.

Q: Some speakers have two versions, outside and in-wall. Except for the appearance, is the inside the same? Will there be any difference in performance?

A: In fact, this has something to do with the design of the original speaker. Because of the larger depth of the swing-out speaker, the use of magnets can be more arbitrary. The thickness of the in-wall speakers is generally about 15cm. If you want to be thinner, some manufacturers will not need the cabinet and expose the speakers and crossovers. But no matter which method you use, you can't use the multi-magnet method to strengthen the magnetic force. Therefore, some in-wall speakers will use rubidium magnets, which can effectively reduce the thickness of the unit, but at the same time increase the cost. This is why in-wall versions tend to be more expensive than swing-out versions.

Q: Nowadays, many people like the cinema system with ceiling. The main box of this type of system is not placed in the front. Will it affect the effect?

A: Many manufacturers have such products. For example, Jieshi also has a horn that goes into the ceiling. Such a system needs a good design during installation, and in fact, the effect does not have any effect. But it does have a downside, which is that the sweet spot is relatively small. Because of the directivity of the first three channels, if the coaxial solution is used, this phenomenon will be weakened and the horn will be more obvious.
