Common home theater problems and how to fix them
Operation Guide
A complete home theater system is a detailed and complex system. When you have a system with so many cables and functional settings, it is inevitable that some bugs cannot be found.
In the process of setting up and testing our home theater equipment, we have encountered many problems ourselves. Fortunately, we also learned a few lessons along the way.
In this guide, we'll list the most common sound tuning issues people have when setting up their home theater system, and how to fix them.
Step 1: Check if the speaker wiring is correct
Power off to check that the amp is connected correctly - a proper connection means that the power cord and speaker wires are properly plugged in. If you're connecting bare wire, make sure it's held down tightly by the stud screw so there's no excess wire sticking out.
Take Tianyi AT-2300 as an example, turn on the level test in the speaker settings, and test each channel in sequence. This test can check whether each speaker is connected correctly and whether the level gain of each speaker is consistent.
Step Two: Check Channel Assignment
Assuming everything is correct and connected, we want to consider the amplifier's menu settings.
In some cases, you may need to manually assign speakers for certain channels, and in other cases, the original content may not play in your speaker setup.
Step 3: The high-definition machine has a picture, but no sound
The high-definition machine has a picture but the power amplifier has no sound. You need to check whether the player supports the separation of audio and video. If supported, this feature needs to be turned off.
On the premise that the function of the main speaker is normal, there is a high probability that it is caused by the mismatch between the power amplifier and the main speaker.
If the power of the power amplifier is too small and the main speaker is a large floor-standing box, there will be a situation of "small horse-drawn cart". Something doesn't feel right.
So in a home theater system, the choice of power amplifier is very important. Choose the power amplifier first and then the speakers. In this way, there will be more choices of speakers in the later stage.
Also, check the crossover point of the subwoofer in the amplifier settings.
You may have it set up to put too much low frequency load on your front speakers, which can distort or muddy the sound.
In some cases, the surround sound content of the movie itself can be very subtle, and your initial impression of surround sound might simply be the sound being played too softly.
If that doesn't fix the problem, then you need to see if your content is capable of 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound.
When playing music with an amplifier, most songs are produced by mixing two channels. General film and television dramas do not necessarily have surround sound mixing. If this is the case, you can choose multi-channel or Dolby audio output in the amplifier settings.
If you are using a Blu-ray player, you may need to set the output to source output or multi-channel bitstream.
There is no sound from the subwoofer, and a large part of the reason is that the amplifier has not set the subwoofer.
We turn on the level test in the speaker settings to check whether the speaker wiring is correct.
Then select the subwoofer option. If the user wants to turn off/on the subwoofer, then they need to select [Frequency Response]-[Left and Right Low Frequency Response], and set the left and right channels to "full frequency".
At this time, the [Subwoofer Selection] option is brightened, and the user can select the switch of the subwoofer.
This setting is to avoid turning off the subwoofer by mistake when the main speaker is not set to "full frequency", resulting in loss of subwoofer signal.
This is because the video processing time is a bit long, and the sound is prepared before the picture, so the actors on the picture will speak before their mouths move, which does affect the viewing experience.
The solution is very simple. Take Tianyi AT-2300 as an example, open the speaker distance in the speaker setting of the menu bar, input the distance from each speaker to the "emperor position", and the system will automatically convert it into milliseconds (delay time) to achieve Better listening effect.
Static electricity is usually a symptom of a problem with speaker connections. A wire may have been jarred loose from the jack, you just need to connect it back.
If it has not been resolved, we can try to switch various signal sources.
If you're currently using a Blu-ray player, and if you have other devices, try watching something on a streaming platform and see if the static persists.
Elimination should help you figure out which part of your system is faulty and causing this behavior. If you are connected to the power amplifier of the front stage, you may find that the problem lies in the connection between them.
When it comes down to it, solving static problems is almost always a problem of loose connections.
Barring the worst case scenario: Your speakers might blow because they don't match your amp.
