Now many friends may think that after buying a speaker, as long as the 3.5mm connector is directly plugged into a player (CD player/digital player/computer/mobile phone), the speaker will emit sound. Indeed, many products on the market today are predestined designs, in order to simplify the steps for consumers to use as much as possible, and do not need to consider matching issues like passive products. When it comes to this, it involves a question: what is active and what is passive?

Active speaker means that the speaker has a built-in crossover and amplification circuit, and it can be turned on only by connecting the power supply and input signal. Commonly used computer speakers, Bluetooth speakers, etc. are actually "active" speakers. Not only that, many monitor speakers in recording studios and professional speakers for engineering are active speakers, so it is quite one-sided to simply use "active" and "passive" to distinguish the level and effect of speakers.

Contrary to active speakers, passive speakers do not have a built-in amplifier circuit, and need to be driven by the output of a post-stage or a merger. Compared with traditional active speakers, most of them are bookshelf type, or 2.1 three-piece design, passive speakers come in a variety of styles, including ground, bookshelf, satellite, etc. It is precisely because there is no built-in amplifier circuit, so users can configure different post-stages or integrated machines for the speakers according to their listening habits and tastes, so as to obtain a sense of hearing that is more in line with their own tastes.

The "2" in "2.1" refers to the standard two-channel (stereo); the ".1" in "2.1" refers to the "bass" channel that is generally output below 100Hz by separate frequency division. The 2.0 speakers we call generally refer to separate 2.0 speakers, which have two independent cabinet combinations, namely the left channel and the right channel speakers. The term "subwoofer" is also the way most people call 2.1 speakers.
